„Open Day“ – Public event in context of the international ESD Expert Net Meeting 2018
On the occasion of the one-week international network meeting of the ESD Expert Net in Durban, South Africa, a public event took place in the botanical garden in Durban on the 22nd of November 2018. Main topic of the event was the global dimension of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).
The welcoming speech by Mr. Bongamusa Mbhele from the metropolitan municipality eThekwini was followed by the keynote speech „Global contexts of ESD: A snapshot from the Global South” by Prof. Emeritus Rob O'Donoghue, who also is a member of the network, as well as Heila Sisitka, who unfortunately couldn’t attend the event. Both work at the Environmental Learning Research Centre of Rhodes University, South Africa.
Afterwards, a panel discussion with one representative from each of the involved countries took place. The late afternoon was reserved for little workshops on different topics such as the programme “Mentoring for ESD-Leadership”, the project „Go Global! Garden” or the “Whole School Approach“. The event was concluded with a guided tour through the Botanical Gardens of Durban.
The event was organized and carried out together with WESSA, one of the network’s South African cooperation partners.
