Second National Workshop of the ESD Leadership Training Programme

The aim of the workshop which took place on 19 to 20 November at the Department of Basic Education in Pretoria was to exhibit the Innovation Projects of the fourteen your leaders from South Africa who attended the ESD Leadership Training Programme in Germany 2011-2013, and to highlight the importance of ESD in Education through an interactive Gallery Walk on day one. This set the scene for the Seminar on day two entitled: ESD towards improving the Quality of Teaching and Learning. The workshop was opened by Mr. Suren Govender, Chief Director: Curriculum Implementation and Monitoring within the Curriculum, Policy, Support and Monitoring Branch. He appealed to the delegates by saying, “As a world we are in crisis. We should become ambassadors to engage with our schools, our communities and our partners to strengthen the implementation of ESD. Education Institutions should make ESD training in the curriculum compulsory across all disciplines”.
