Berlin, 11/06/2016 – 12/06/2016
From 11 to 12 June 2016, the Federal Ministry for Education and Research ran the first Agenda Conference 2016 under the title of “Education for Sustainable Development | Together!” in the Berlin Conference Centre. Alongside Minister Professor Dr Wanka, who opened the conference, President of the German UNESCO Commission, Professor Dr Metz Mangold, and Sylvia Lohrman, Prime Minister of the state of Nordrhein-Westfalen and Minister for Education and Training, also participated in the event. Other participants at the conference included around 500 further actors and initiatives, who all have the same end goal in mind: the implementation of a global education programme for sustainable development in Germany.
Alongside UNESCO, ESD Expert Net led a two-day workshop called “Driver of change for sustainability“. The workshop was opening with a statement by Charles Hopkins (UNESCO Chair in Reorienting Teacher Education) and highlighted ESD as a key factor in sustainable development from an international perspective. Additionally, the focus was also on the relationship between national action plan on ESD goals and the international 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
