ESD Expert Net – Germany, India, Mexico and South Africa

A shared vision and joint concepts of education for sustainable development

ESD stands for Education for Sustainable Development and connects experts in a global partnership. Together they promote the international exchange to ESD and develop transnational approaches and strategies, which are then returned to Germany, India, Mexico and South Africa. They advise on the elaboration and implementation of educational policy and provide national and international concepts and products. “Engagement Global” performs the programme on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Thinking and acting sustainably requires knowledge and competences to which in turn education makes a considerable contribution. Against this background, the United Nations proclaimed the years 2005 to 2014 the “UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development”. Even after 2014 there is agreement that ESD is a key factor for sustainable development. The Global Action Programme (GAP) “Education for sustainable development”, which was adopted at the end of 2014 and is coordinated by the UNESCO, provides the framework for the necessary further activities. The ESD Expert Net was selected together with “Engagement Global – Service für Entwicklungsinitiativen” (Service for Development Initiatives) as international key partner of UNESCO for the implementation of the WAP and will actively support it in the years ahead.
